Church History

Good Samaritan M.B. Church was founded by Rev. Peoples in 1962 who affectionally named it Good Samaritan M.B. Church. Rev. Peoples was a huge Robert Kennedy fan and thus named the church after the hospital in which he was taken to on his assassination. The church was located at 1400 N. Garrison in a small, rented building. The search was on to find another building due to the congregation needs. The members at that time where Dec. Sam Crigler, Sis. Minnie Moore, Dea. Andrew Jackson and Mother Dora Burns. All who have now passed away. After time searching for a building, they landed at 3917 Kossuth. As the time pass the church went through many Pastors after Rev. Peoples left. In 1990 the leadership role was passed over to Pastor Harold. In 1992 Pastor Harold time was up at Good Samaritan and the search was to find another Pastor. In that same year the search was over and pass on to Rev. Will H. Davis.
After a few years in the location on Kossuth there was a need for a larger sanctuary and the church marched in the cold snowy weather to 2508 Salisbury their new home. Many ministries were created, and many members joined. After being in the building a few years one Thanksgiving morning a storm came and removed the roof off the building. Repairs were made but a few months later another storm came, and this storm damaged building the congregation had to move. Being displaced Rev. Lewis Jenkins the Pastor of New Morning Star at that time allowed Pastor Davis to share his church building with him. Good Samaritan and New Morning Star shared the same Sanctuary for three years. Both churches began to grow, and Pastor Davis made the decision that our time was up at New Morning Star. We needed a place of our own. After various attempts to purchase buildings and searching for buildings we moved into 1488 Belt which was owned by Friendly Temple. We remained there on Belt for six years. Again, with the Lord leading the Pastor, we moved to 3101 Lambdin on Dec. 1, 2018. We were finally home. Pastor Davis finished strong until August 2020 when he was called to his eternal rest.

Now we stand ready to embark on a new beginning with a new Pastor Rev. Jermaine Lane. Rev. Lane and his family have already started to move the church forward while keeping the same spirit of love and fellowship. Rev. Lane believes that kingdom work is teamwork, with everyone working in and out the will of God designed for Good Samaritan. To God be the glory for the things that he has done. He has kept Good Samaritan through it all and we are STILL HERE.
